MARTY FRIEDMAN's Mexico City Concert To Be Recorded For Live Album
April 10, 2018Marty Friedman's April 14 "Guitarfest 2018" concert at Centro Cultural Roberto Cantoral in Mexico City will be professionally recorded for a live album.
Friedman is continuing to tour in support of his latest solo LP, "Wall Of Sound", which was released last August via Prosthetic Records. Produced by Friedman, engineered by Paul Fig (GHOST, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS) and mixed by Jens Bogren (KREATOR, OPETH, SEPULTURA),the disc "expands and destroys any conventional notions of instrumental music," according to a press release. Legendary QUEEN producer Mack came on board to handle the mixing on two tracks, "Streetlight" and "For A Friend", which Friedman proclaimed was "an honor for me, for sure."
Marty's new CD was recorded in part at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in California with engineer Paul Fig (ALICE IN CHAINS, RUSH, DEFTONES) and was previously described by Friedman as "a way more intense version" of its predecessor: "deeper, sadder, happier and more aggressive."
Like "Inferno", Friedman's new album features several guests, including prog-thrashers MUTOID MAN, Jørgen Munkeby of the Norwegian avant-garde jazz-metal outfit SHINING and Jinxx of Los Angeles theatrical rockers BLACK VEIL BRIDES.
In an interview with the Cleveland Scene, Friedman said that his unique style of playing "just kind of happened. A very important part of my playing is to never repeat myself," he explained. "That becomes more and more challenge after you release 13 albums. I'm constantly challenging myself and that forces you to come up with stranger and more exotic things. I'm lucky I have that motivation. By nature, I'm kind of a lazy bastard. That motivation makes me want to explore the music I want to make. That's why there are different facets to my playing that thankfully people pick up on and enjoy."
